Final Steps
This past Friday, I went to C.C. Griffin Middle School to teach a group of 6th graders about Global Warming. It went really well! I was very pleased.
When I got there, I made sure to get them interested in what I was there to talk to them about. First off, I asked all them to stand up. Then I told them to stay standing if they knew what global warming was, and if not then to sit back down. Out of the kids that were standing, I asked them to give me their definition, and rewarded them with starburst for taking a shot at it/putting their ideas out there. I asked other questions to get the to interact with me too, such as: Who likes to snowskii? (when talking about how global warming can cause glaciers to melt and winter to be warmer), What should you do with used plastic grocery bags? (when talking about recycling), etc. I gave them blow pops that had tags with my myspace web address on them, in order to get them interested in that too.
The kids really impressed me with how attentive they were, and they made it really fun and easy to talk to them about my project and research. Talking to them about what global warming is, the effects of global warming, and how they can all help slow down the process was a breeze. Teaching the 6th graders was the last part of the product phase in my graduation project, and I could not have asked for it to go any better than it did!
