Pictures of Lesson @ C.C. Griffin!

Final Steps

This past Friday, I went to C.C. Griffin Middle School to teach a group of 6th graders about Global Warming. It went really well! I was very pleased.

When I got there, I made sure to get them interested in what I was there to talk to them about. First off, I asked all them to stand up. Then I told them to stay standing if they knew what global warming was, and if not then to sit back down. Out of the kids that were standing, I asked them to give me their definition, and rewarded them with starburst for taking a shot at it/putting their ideas out there. I asked other questions to get the to interact with me too, such as: Who likes to snowskii? (when talking about how global warming can cause glaciers to melt and winter to be warmer), What should you do with used plastic grocery bags? (when talking about recycling), etc. I gave them blow pops that had tags with my myspace web address on them, in order to get them interested in that too.

The kids really impressed me with how attentive they were, and they made it really fun and easy to talk to them about my project and research. Talking to them about what global warming is, the effects of global warming, and how they can all help slow down the process was a breeze. Teaching the 6th graders was the last part of the product phase in my graduation project, and I could not have asked for it to go any better than it did!

Reaching Out via Internet

I have finished the website part of my Global Warming awareness campaign!

Go check it out! --> www.myspace.com/letscoolit

Yesterday, I had a meeting with some students at my school, Central Cabarrus High School, about global warming. I think that it went really well. This afternoon, I am going to C.C. Griffin to teach a class of 6th graders about my research! I'm a little bit nervous, but i think it will go well.

Here's a picture of me talking to peers at my high school, and I will post some pictures of my presentations at the middle school a little later!

Interesting Advertisement is KEY!

I've finally found the time to start making and hanging up posters! I didn't realize how much preparation, time, and effort was needed in order to complete the graduation project. I can really see how every component of the project will help me later in college!

So, back to my posters! I love being creative. My product really is perfect for me. Not only do I get to use creativity, and art skills, in making posters and a website, but I also get to interact with my community later on! I am very much a people person, so I can't wait to get to that part of the project.

Here are my favorite posters:

(And of course they both have glitter! I want people to be interested in them and take the time to look at them!)

Lets get it started!!!!

How many people do you know that continually recycle? Global Warming is a huge issue in our society/world today, and that is why I chose to prepare, market, and conduct a global warming awareness campaign for my Senior Exit Project product!

It is crazy at the number of people, most commonly you people, who don't even know what the truth and myths are about global warming. It is true that global warming is resonsible for the destruction of our atmosphere, and this process has to be recognized!

So, as for my campaign, here are some of my main goals and expectations (in an easy reading list form!):
- Create readable, interesting, and informative posters to put up around school so that in passing, Central students will get a sense of global warming's importance. (The more people see the facts, the more likely they are to respond by taking steps to help slow down the negative effects.)

- Create a website/myspace/facebook! (only one of the three) Everyone knows teenagers are internet busy bodies, and if information is on the web in a fun way, they are sure to run across it and even respect it.

- Teach middle school students about what they can do to help recycle/slow global warming! (I want to make sure I make everything sound exciting and fun. Most of the time kids are optimistic and enthusiastic about random small things in life, so it should work good!)

These are my plans so far! I have started meeting with my mentor already, so ill keep you updated on the up and coming steps in my campaign! :)
